Restoration Progress
This project has been undertaken as a partnership between public and private donations. This project shows a love for historical preservation, the arts, and a high level of civic pride in our community. This will be a top to bottom restoration of the Norwalk Theatre built in 1941. The historic theater, soundstage, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing are all to be renovated and upgraded.
The roof and decking project was completed in 2021 with the entire project being funded through private donations. The next step in the renovation project was the marquee. The marquee of the Norwalk Theatre is the largest marquee of its kind in the State of Ohio. This restoration phase of the project was funded through both private and public monies as Norwalk Arts Center was awarded $250,000 from the State of Ohio capital improvements budget. This part of the project was just completed the of summer 2024
The next steps in the project will be moving inside the theater to being work there. First and foremost, the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing will be the initial focus as those pieces are required for the doors to be opened to the public again. We will then prioritize the work to be done to get to the point where we can open the doors and begin having entertainment available for the greater Huron county area. This is not where the journey ends. There are things were are looking at to greatly improve the use of our historic theater that we will be able to look at completing once the doors are opened.
We would not be where we are without the unwavering support of our great community and the greater Huron County area support, we have received since our inception.
